PG & Research Department of English, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) has offered an Intercollegiate Certificate course on ‘Literature of the Artificial Intelligence’ for 45 hours for two batch of learners. The course started on 01st December 2022 for winter session and 20th February for summer session. 79 & 63 participants, overall, 142 enrolled includes students, research scholars and faculty members from different departments and college/Universities. The course was conducted to briefly trace the interactions between AI and Literature and to open ways for futuristic research-oriented ideas. All the enrolled participants have completed the course. 6 faculty members from different departments and a full-time research scholar from our college have delivered guest lecture to the participants. The course encouraged critical reflection on the ethical, cultural and creative implications of artificial intelligence while opening new avenues for research and innovation in the humanities. By bridging literary inquiry with technological advancement, the programme fostered a deeper understanding of the future of storytelling, knowledge creation, and human-machine collaboration.
Tech-Sci Literature was a 45-hour intercollegiate certificate course designed to explore the dynamic intersections of science, technology, and literary studies. Bringing together, overall 65, students, research scholars and faculty members from diverse institutions, this examined how scientific ideas and technological advancements shape literary imagination, cultural discourse and human understanding. Through expert lectures, critical discussions and interdisciplinary inquiry, participants engaged with science fiction, speculative narratives, ethics, innovation and emerging research possibilities. The course fostered critical thinking and encouraged learners to investigate contemporary challenges through both scientific and literary perspectives. By bridging disciplinary boundaries, it provided a platform for exploring the future of knowledge, creativity and academic research in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Social Media for Academics was a 45-hour intercollegiate certificate course conducted in September 2024. Designed for students, research scholars and faculty members, the course explored the transformative role of social media in teaching, learning, research dissemination and professional networking. Drawing upon the works of Megan Poore and Mark Carrigan, the programme combined theoretical insights with practical applications relevant to contemporary academia. The course attracted 88 participants from diverse institutions and featured expert lectures by invited academicians. Through interactive sessions, assessments and collaborative learning activities, participants developed the skills and ethical awareness necessary to navigate and leverage social media effectively in academic environments.
JOSLEX Startup Initiative
JOSLEX (JL) is a student-led literary and academic startup initiated by the PG & Research Department of English, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Tiruchirappalli. Designed as a dynamic platform for creativity, critical inquiry and digital engagement, JL connects students, scholars, staff, alumni and literature enthusiasts through publishing, podcasting, reviewing, content creation, and multimedia storytelling. Through its flagship initiatives—including ENGZINE (biannual e-magazine), The POOKIE (e-newspaper), SaySo (Spotify podcast), ENGZINE Podcast (YouTube channel) and LitFlix (literary and film appreciation club), Joslex mobile App (available at GooglePlaystore)—JOSLEX nurtures communication, creativity, leadership and professional skills. By integrating literature, culture, technology and contemporary discourse, JL empowers emerging voices and fosters a vibrant community of learners, creators and innovators.
JL’s flagship biannual e-publication, ENGZINE (ISSN 3049-1363), celebrates literary creativity, cultural critique and academic insight. Essays, Short stories, poetry and Articles from students and scholars converge here. Contributors develop professional writing and publishing skills while readers discover diverse voices and global perspectives, enriching the academic and creative community alike
Sharp, witty, and timely — The POOKIE is JL’s e-newspaper blending critical essays, campus chronicles, reviews and even memes. Students sharpen their digital writing and editorial skills, while readers engage with fresh takes on literature, culture, and trends. The POOKIE invites contributors nationwide to join this collaborative literary conversation.
JL goes visual with the bilingual ENGZINE Video Podcast on YouTube — a dynamic blend of interviews, performances, debates and discussions. Students practice public speaking and digital presentation while showcasing their creativity to the world. Viewers enjoy thought-provoking content that bridges academic insights with contemporary cultural dialogue, accessible to a global audience.
For those who prefer stories in their ears, JL presents SAYSO — a bilingual Spotify podcast channel. Students host, script and produce episodes on literature, cinema, art, and society. Listeners gain enriching, diverse perspectives in crisp audio formats. SaySo nurtures critical thinking and storytelling in the digital soundscape
JL’s LitFlix club feeds the soul of bookworms and cinephiles. Through reviews, appreciation sessions, and meet-ups, members cultivate analytical and expressive skills while building literary camaraderie. Writers and readers alike benefit from exposure to nuanced discussions on classic and contemporary works — from Austen to Anime, Shakespeare to Studio Ghibli.

JOSLEX is an innovative student-developed mobile app that serves as the digital hub of the PG & Research Department of English, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous).
